ACA Hosted Rides

ACA hosted rides are “no drop” group rides lead by a trained ACA hosted ride leader. Ride distance, pace and route are established by the ride leader.

Rides are rated with a number and a letter. The number refers to how hilly a ride is with 1 meaning a ride is relatively flat and 4 meaning the ride is hilly. See the "Hosted Ride Rating Key" (to the right) for an explanation of the letter ratings.

Contact the Ride Director at rides [dot] chairataustincycling [dot] org if you are interested in becoming a hosted ride leader.

  • Green - Ride will happen as planned
  • White - Ride may be canceled if weather is bad
  • Red - Ride has been cancelled

Scout-a-route Another Pleasant Valley Bike Ride - Backwards!
02/04 (Sat) 9:30am D-3 17 mi
This no-drop, co-ed group ride is perfect for the cyclist new to riding or bike commuting, returning to the bike or just looking for a more casual ride.  The routes are designed to help riders navigate the city bike routes and other safe bike commuting options. Thank you for making this a popular Saturday morning ride.  In response, we are now hosting two groups for this ride.  The first group to depart is designed for those who can average 14-16mph for 20-30 miles with one or two regrouping points.  This group follows the same route but is provided with an extended mileage option based on availability of extra ride leaders.  The second group is our traditional Scout-a-route.  We average 12mph for distances between 15-25 miles with regrouping points.  Both rides are intended to explore, so leave your heart rate monitor at home, bring some spare dollars for the occasional refreshment stop and enjoy the view.   Today we venture onto a southeast Austin route with a foray over the river via Pleasant Valley Rd and rolling back through Travis Heights. It's a mix of flat, hills, urban and creekside all within minutes of downtown. No, we won't be riding our bikes backwards but riding the route in reverse just to experience the climbs in a new way.

General group ride expectation:  helmet, bike in good working condition, water and nutrition, flat changing tools,  and no headphones.  We encourage you to ride your bike to the ride but if you are driving, please, park in the street.

Today's ride is a more challenging route than usual with the hills of Rollingwood and riding a short section of Loop 360 with it's wide shoulders but faster traffic. The mileage is low at 14 miles but requires some experience. The long route adds more hills along Pecos and Exposition.
